The SAT IIs are subject tests which correspond approximately to U.K. A levels in the depth of knowledge required; however, there are fewer subjects from which to chose and all the subject tests are multiple-choice questions. Students are advised to sit three subject tests in order to choose their top two marks to send to American universities. Revising for subject tests requires students to review specific subject material as well as practising key strategies and techniques that are particular to the format of the SAT IIs.
We find that students in the U.K. often perform best in the following subjects as they relate most closely to subjects students commonly take at A level:
For students whose subjects do not match the above (for example, a student taking History, Economics and Psychology at A level), we would recommend that they take the SAT II Subject Tests in subjects which closely match their GCSE exam subjects.
While we can also provide tuition for the U.S. History and World History exams we would not usually recommend these as good choices for UK students unless they have prior experience of the subjects.
