So if you need to consolidate knowledge in a particular subject, come to grips with difficult concepts, work on study skills (e.g. essay writing and planning), or simply refresh your knowledge for examination, a short course may offer you the support and help you need.
Greene’s has been designing, organising and managing individual short courses for nearly 50 years – and using tutors that have been trained to cover a wide range of A level subjects and examination boards. Short courses are managed by our course administrator.
Short courses at Greene’s are based on a programme of individual tuition with independent study. This means you should also expect to complete about three hours of independent study for each hour of tuition; however, if you are at school, and taking supplementary tuition during the school term, we will be aware of the need to balance independent study with the demands of school homework.
Trained subject tutors are carefully chosen to suit your particular modules or your style of learning, and after each tutorial they will write a report on your work. These reports are available online so that all concerned are aware of your progress, punctuality and what is being covered. Preparation of the short course can also be co-ordinated with your school, so that tutors can be well briefed about specific topics that need attention.
Tuition takes place in the tutor’s teaching premises. Dates are flexible, and are arranged at mutually convenient times, dependent on the availability of the most suitable tutor; however, please note that whilst tutorials can, and often do, take place during weekends and Bank Holidays, our offices in central Oxford will be closed.
Many students choose to take tuition during half-term breaks and holidays leading up to summer examinations. For 2014-2015 these are:
February short courses – Saturday 14th February until Saturday 21st February 2015
Easter short courses – Saturday 21st March until Saturday 11th April 2015
May short courses Saturday 23rd May until Saturday 30th May 2015
Please bear in mind that other dates are also possible if required, such as during examination leave. You may also consider taking supplementary tuition, which enables you to build slowly and systematically on school work over the course of several months or even a year. Please enquire how we can arrange this for you.
